Falls are a leading cause of injury in the UK

People with a range of illnesses can be at risk of falls. Likewise, as the ageing population is growing, falls can be a huge problem for the elderly. As we get older we are more likely to have falls. This risk can have a huge impact on a person’s confidence in approaching normal everyday activities and can cause significant worry for loved ones.

We are proud to be partnering with My Medic Watch to provide innovative smartwatch apps that can detect movement associated with falls, raise alarms, and provide help and support to keep users safe.

Users can set up key contacts such as loved ones and caregivers who are notified when the smartwatch detects movement associated with a fall or when the user raises the alarm themselves. If a contact does not respond, then we can pick up the alarm in our Monitoring Centre and escalate all alarms through the emergency services if required. Note, the Premium Fall App with our Monitoring Service is expected to be launched early 2025.

Loved ones and carers can download the Carer My Medic Watch app to their smartphones. They can see whether the user has background monitoring activated, and live Heart Rate data (if monitoring is activated). Loved ones and carers will also have the ability to pick up alarms if available, and see live updates including the user’s location if alarms are activated both in the app and via SMS messages.

The My Medic Watch app uses complex algorithms to detect movement associated with falls and also captures heart rate information in real time once the fall is detected. We can receive the alarm, user location and real-time heart rate information when the user does not cancel the alarm or the nominated carers do not respond, and use this information to get help to the user including escalation to the emergency services.
